Britain names first woman as poet laureate (Chicago Tribune)

Carol Ann Duffy, an acclaimed Scottish poet with an eclectic range and a flair for satire and humor, is also the first openly gay poet named to the position. For the first time since the post was created in 1668, Britain has selected a woman as its poet laurate, the long-acclaimed Scottish-born Carol Ann Duffy, who has written on topics such as Shakespeare and Elvis Presley.
